VENMO:  @HAROLD-SHERMAN

A solo and ensemble performer who plays piano and sings, I am from Lexington, KY, where I was born and raised.  I have lived here all my life, except for the 11-year period that included playing on the road and living in New York.  Primarily a jazz player, my educational and professional backgrounds collectively include classical, rock, country, Latin-American and other types of ethnic music.

I have played a wide array of events at numerous venues.  These include weddings, rehearsal dinners, receptions, company parties, musical theater productions, outdoor concerts (including over a decade leading my own groups at the Ecton Park Big Band & Jazz Series), pageants and religious functions in different venues, which include hotels, restaurants, concert halls, local retirement homes and churches.  I have booked and rehearsed groups to play many of the events.  These groups include:  GROUP 6, THE YOUNG URBAN PROFESSIONALS, HAROLD SHERMAN JAZZ TRIO  and HAROLD SHERMAN & FRIENDS LATIN/JAZZ FUSION.

In 1999, I received my MM in Composition from the University of Kentucky School of Music.  While working on my degree, I played in the UK Jazz Ensemble.  I now have arrangements and original compositions published in the eJazzLines catalog.  One composition in the catalog is a big band arrangement that was my Masters thesis:  Project revisited after 20 years: For my Masters Thesis composition at the University of KY School of Music in 1999, I wrote a big band arrangement of an original tune that changes key every 2 measures until it cycles through all 12. The Eastern KY University Jazz Ensemble recorded it in Fall 2019 at the school's in-house studio, with trumpet tracks played by guest artist Scott Heersche. Thanks to Director Dr. Larry Nelson and his son Joel (engineer/producer). Below are links to audio on eJazzlines website and EKU Jazz Ensemble Home Page:

Past personnel in my various professional groups include former UK School of Music students who have since gone on to prestigious careers in performance and education. One such alumnus is Glenn Kotche, drummer for the rock band WILCO (and jazz and classical percussionist/composer in his own right). I have accompanied the following artists in live performances:  Greg Abate, Jamey Aebersold, Randy Brecker, Graham Breedlove, Zach Brock, Laura Bell Bundy, Jeff Coffin, John Davidson, Denis DiBlasio, Vince DiMartino, Chuck Findley, Wycliffe Gordon, Duke Madison, Miles Osland, Marc Ribot, Bobby Shew, Lyndy Franklin Smith, Clark Terry, Chris Vadala, Walker & Kays, Bill Watrous and my own sister Genie Walker (who has toured Europe and received favorable reviews in The New York Times, The Village Voice and Downbeat--featured on her CD, Not from Concentrate).

I also play with The BATs (listed in the links) and am one of the owners of Pro Sound & Lights (also listed in the links.)  For more information, please check out BuckMark, LLC on Facebook.
